How to convert Fairy lights to 12 volt.
To do this you will require a 20 string set of Christmas tree lights, if you want 40 you will have to join two sets together.
Please note: You do this at your own risk this is only meant as a guide West Sussex D.A or the webmaster cannot be held responsible for any incidents arising from following this guide.
These light come with twenty 12volt lamps wired in series you will need to convert them into parallel.
You will need to cut them all off, so that you are left with 20 lamps like the one shown below, leave about 2cm or so of cable on each one.
The lamps then need to be connected in parallel, using the remaining cable or a new piece to extend the gap between each lamp, the best method of doing the joints is with crimps and covering with tape.
When you have all 20 connected you will then need to fit an inline fuse holder between 'A' and the positive terminal on your plug or crocodile clip, 'B' is then the negative or return. Fit a 2 or 3 amp fuse in the fuse holder. Important note: Do not connect your newly converted set of lights to anything other than a 12 volt supply. |
