Snippets from the Past.
Taken from a Thumbstick of August 1975 and to
prove that other years must have been as bad as this.
The Day the Rains Came.
Sunday is a day of rest,
So it says in the Good Book,
And so we went to Rydinghurst,
Our picnic lunch we took.
We hoped to chatter here and there,
And sit ‘neath someones awning,
Lazing in a camping chair,
To pass a pleasant morning.
Alas the plans of mice and men
So often go astray,
We found a scene defying pen,
With deep mud all the way.
Wet canvas hanging out to dry,
Campers dressed in rainwear,
Drivers all geared up to try,
The exit gate with every care.
But cars and ‘vans slid to a rest,
No matter how they tried,
And helpers pushed with zeal and zest,
Till all stood safe outside.
So now I end my sorry epic,
Of the day the site was muddy,
Oh!Shades of Shakespeare!save me quick,
The only rhyme is ‘B----y’
This rhyme was penned by ‘Lucy’ Aug 1975
was this you? Do you know who Lucy is? It was obviously penned before the advent
of the 4x4??!!!

And one to remind us of the better camping
days taken from August 1976.
Lets go treking in the sun,
Cool winds upon our face,
Camp where smooth,cool waters run,
And rest in some quiet place.
Lets follow stream and valley down,
And gaze on distant peaks,
Forget our life within the town,
We’re all back there next week.
This one may have been penned by Mick Haynes
although it was not,at the time, credited to him?
